Our weekly Conchas y Café Zine – Bilingual Community Writing Workshops are free and open to adults. This program offered by DSTL Arts, provides a 12-week creative writing workshop for adults of all ages. Participants learn more about creative writing, poetry, publishing, zine-making, and more, while receiving writing exercises and feedback on their work. Participants also have the opportunity to publish and present their work in a zine of writing produced through the program. A public reading and release party celebrates the culmination of each 12-week series.

Poesia Narrativa: Write Narrative Poetry
Join California Poets in the Schools, teachers, Juan Cardenas and Jessica Wilson on a journey through narrative poetry. Write in your own voice and learn new ways to express yourself.
This 6 series workshop will include food, so get ready for some delicious learning, and connection building through creative writing.

Joshua Rivkin & Chalk: The Art and Erasure of Cy Twombly at Book Soup
Join us to hear Joshua Rivkin present his book, Chalk: The Art and Erasure of Cy Twombly. Upon first seeing Twombly’s remarkable room-size paintings, the author became obsessed with this mysterious artist and has now reconstructed his life based upon years of archival research and interviews. From his time at legendary Black Mountain College, to his canonization in a 1994 MoMA retrospective, this book presents a more personal and searching type of biography, and brings to life the story of a more complex artist than we’ve known.

The Displaced Children of Displaced Children at UCLA
Please join host Neelanjana Banerjee to welcome and hear writer and activist Tanzila Ahmed (Luskin MPP ’07) and award winning poet Faisal Mohyuddin, for a reading and conversation about writing, loss, politics, and more. Refreshments provided!
Faisal Mohyuddin’s poetry, fiction and visual art have appeared widely, and his poetry is also anthologized. His chapbook The Riddle of Longing of was published by Backbone Press in 2017, and his first full length collection, The Displaced Children of Displaced Children was the winner of the Sexton Prize and came out in 2018.
Tanzila “Taz” Ahmed plays at the intersection of pop and politics through a variety of mediums and actions. She is co-host of the Good Muslin Bad Muslim Podcast, among other pursuits.

Dennis Vaughn & The Longboat at Diesel Bookstore
Please join us to hear author Dennis Vaughn discuss and sign his novel, The Longboat.
This book is a family saga, spanning multiple generations and continents, focused on two Burmese boys who are brought to the U.S. and the challenges they face in adjusting to the Western world and to changes in their own relationship. Over the span of thirty years they go from inseparable best friends to antagonists, and ends with the Saffron Revolution of 2007.
