1984 Screening at Hammer Museum   

Join us as we join theatres across the country to offer a screening of Nineteen Eighty Four, Michael Radford’s 1984 adaptation of the novel 1984 by George Orwell. April 4 is the date that Orwell’s protagonist, Winston Smith, begins rebelling against an oppressive government—one that attempts to control the bodies and minds of its citizens, manufactures its own facts, and encourages blind conformity—resonates now more than ever. Rattle Poets at Flintridge Bookstore

April is National Poetry and Writing Month! Rattle Poetry reading presents readings by Sarah Bates and Truth Thomas.

Sarah Bates lives in Marquette, Michigan, and her work won the 2016 Washington Square Poetry Award. Her poem “When a Guy at the Bar Tells Me I Sound Damaged” appeared in Rattle’s Poets Respond series this January.

Truth Thomas was born in Knoxville, Tennesee, and raised in Washington, D.C. His collections of poetry include: Speak Water; Bottle of Life; A Day of Presence; and Party of Black. He is the founder of Cherry Castle Publishing, creator of the Skinny poetry form, and serves on the editorial board of the Tidal Basin Review. His poem Boardwalk Empire appears in Rattle #55 this spring.
